Lesson 4.5 – Sharps and Flats

Notice that the transition between letter names varies between one or two half steps. If
you count each half step from A to A, you get a total of 12 half steps before starting the
pattern over (the Chromatic Scale).

Sharps are notes that are raised by one fret (semitone) and represented by a # symbol.
Every note has a sharp except for B and E.

Flats are notes that are lowered by one fret (semitone) and represented by a symbol.
Every note has a flat except for C and F.
