Lesson 6.3 – The Downstroke

As you are learning new chords and figuring out how to switch between them while playing, you should focus on improving your strumming hand. Proper strumming will produce a great sound from your guitar, and you will also develop better speed over time.

When playing chords and using alternate picking, make sure the pick is angled the correct
way to conserve energy and produce the best sound. When strumming with a down stroke, the pick should be angled up so that it glides across the strings without getting stuck. Make sure not to angle the pick too much, as that will produce a weak sounding strum.
