Lesson 7.1 – The A Minor Chord

Minor chords are major chords, but with the 3rd note dropped one half-note (or semitone). In musical terms this is called flatting the 3rd. For more information on minor chords visit our chord library section.

For the key of A – the 3rd note in the scale is C# (A – B – C#). If we drop the C# one half-note we get to C. So the A minor chord contains the notes A, C, and E).
