Practice 5.8 – Eighth Notes

We will now play eighth (1/8) notes on the G Major, C Major, D Major Chords, and then finish back on the G Major Chord.

If you were to count quarter notes, they would be on the beat: 1, 2, 3, 4. In the measure below you could play the C Major Chord on every count since they are quarter notes. You can see the numbers in blue.

Eighth notes are 1/2 as long as quarter notes – so instead of just on the beat, they are also played in-between the beat. To count this you would say “1 and 2 and 3 and 4”. The eighth note also looks different – as you can see below.
